영어로 "갑질"을 뭐라고 할까?

"갑질" 이라는 단어는 과연 영어에도 있을까?

갑질 문화?는 분명 한국에만 있는 것은 아닐 것이라고 생각한다.

정도의 차이가 있지만 수직구조의 조직에서는 인간사이에서 발생할 수 밖에 없는 행태라고 생각한다.

 

과연 그렇다면 영어에도 '갑질'이라는 단어가 있을까?

위키피디아에는 갑질을 번역하지 않고, 갑질(Gapjil)이라는 단어를 그대로 써서, 한국 고유의 단어인 것으로 설명 주고 있다. 오마이...

Gapjil (Korean: 갑질) is an expression referring to an arrogant and authoritarian attitude or actions of people in South Korea who have positions of power over others.[1] Gapjil is a neologism made by combining the word Gap (갑; 甲)—which is used to introduce the first party in a contract, but also refers to superior status—and jil (-질), a suffix that negatively refers to particular actions.[2][3] It is a phenomenon associated with the hierarchical nature of Korean society and work culture, a structure which results in the social superiority of those with higher wealth. Various incidents, such as the nut rage controversy, have resulted in popularization of the term and brought the phenomenon to the attention of world media.

 

갑질이라는 영어단어가 있다기 보다 그 상황을 설명하는 영어표현들이 몇 개 있다.

일단 권위적이고 직급으로 상황을 컨트롤 하는 사람을 뜻하는 단어로 "bossy"라는 단어가 있는데

우두머리행세를 하는, 이래라저래라 시키는..등의 사전적 의미를 갖고 있다.

유사 단어로는 imperious (오만한, 고압적인), overbearing (남을 지배하려드는), pushy (밀어부치는)등이 있다.

또는 정말 사소한 것까지 하나하나 따지고 매니징 하는 사람을 micromanage 한다라고도 얘기한다. 

 

숙어표현으로는 on a power trip 이라는 표현이 있다.

'갑질한다'라는 뜻과 가장 가까운 표현에 해당 될 수 있다.
